Blue Spotted Jaw Fish tank

I want to have a Blue Spotted Jaw fish dedicated 32 gallon biocube with a 2” sand bed and plenty of live rock.
Other than keeping the temperature below 70° what else do I need to do to make sure this fish will thrive?
Are there any other fish I can put in with it at the tank running this temperature?

I’ve got a really well established 32 biocube and if I have to, he will be the King of the Cube and the only fish in the castle!

I recall being recommended a full 5” deep sand bed when I enquired about these fish last… thankfully, that’s not a ton of sand to buy for a biocube!

I’ve already got 40 pounds in it so that will only be about one more 20 pound bag. I got it on sale Petco for $15 for 20 pounds.

this, i’ve had one for the past five years in a im 25 lagoon…
i bought 4” pvc and constructed a t shaped tube with an angled entry/exit makeshift burrow for him and he’s remained in there since introduction.

tank stays at 66-72 degrees depending on the season of the year.

have a candy basslet and pink streaked wrasse in there with him and they all do just fine

I keep my tank at 77. My blue spot is super happy. He also lives with a pearly. They need a 2" sandbed. They like to move around so will need a few rocks on the sand to dig under. Glue acrylic rods to the bottom of your rocks so they dont fall to the sand etc. Other than that super easy to care for and I love mine.

De Jong breeds blue spots at 77, too.

The owner doesn’t think the hobby lore around them needing cold water is accurate, and that they do just fine long term in reef tank temps

Btw if you build a PVC cave once they settle in they’ll almost never leave

Mine sometimes steals snail shells and stuff for the burrow entrance but never goes digging

Blue's are considers a cold water fish. I believe they live in the conditions of 72-78 degree water in the wild. I kept a blue spot in 2-3 inches of sand. Giving borrowing caves I think would be enough.
