Got another one comming on Tuesday. Hopefully this one survives the shipping. Is a par level of 150 enough?

I can take a reading of mine if you want. Let me know... I might need a couple days. It might be a bit more than 150, but probably not much more... they are on the bottom and off to the side. I did start them out in the frag tank under about 750 PAR until I saw some significant new shell, but they have grown from 3 and 4 inches to 8 and 10 where they are now.

Here they are a few inches ago:

Thanks if you have a par meter on hand that would be helpful. Otherwise no need to crazy.

Apogee 510 bounced between 186 and 210. ...so call it 200 where those two are right now. They will get a bit more output than this with the UV, violet and IR that the PAR meter cannot read (at all or very well), but only maybe 20-25% more. This will not be present in nearly all LEDs, so just factor that in if you are a LED user.

I measured the frag tank too where I have two new(er) ones at about 460. Those will be there for another week and then they will go under the 6500K (same frag tank) at about 750 PAR until they show 1/2 of shell growth. I do not put then in the tank until I know that they are off to a good start with some new growth. They really grow like crazy under the 6500K, but I am Ok with the growing slower so that I can enjoy them more... these will eventually outgrow my tank and I will sell them to get some smaller ones. It kinda breaks my heart when I have to sell them.

Still alive, lol. Just set a record for how long I have kept one of these alive. I have no doubt that the 2 previous ones were already toast when I got them. Got a long ways to fill in that space.

That is a nice blue.

Do you mind if I ask where you got it? I got a notification from DD, but I might have to make a trip to my LFS (they always order them when available) if you got it local.

Is it normal for a clam that is acclimating to not respond to shadows. Got an eerie feeling about this.

Clam is still alive. Seems to be doing ok but still accimating. Question today is on new shell growth. This clam has no new shell growth. Is this normal for a Divers Den clam? I am assuming it has something to do with travel and going from wholesaler to LA to my tank. You would think LA would wait until the clam settled before shipping it out again. No way this clam was there 2 weeks or examined for optimal health. I wish clams direct was still around!

I have seen clams in hobbyist tanks for years that show no new appreciable shell growth. I think that it is quite common for clams to take a pause coming out of the ocean, shipping a few times and then into a tank. They probably had 1000-1500+ PAR in their lagoon in the south pacific. They are not going to get anywhere near that again except in a few tanks. This is why I blast them under 6500K when I get them... until they start to grow again.

I do think that the clams from DD were better when they were under the 400w Radiums... acro frags too.

In any case, this all seems normal.

Clam is looking very good. It did move a bit and placed part of its mantle under an overhang. Will see what happens and may have to move it out a bit. Keep telling myself no hands in the tank for 30 days.

Hopefully its still acclimating but the clam has not really looked good since Monday. Thinking it may be on its way out.

Well we are still alive. No new shell growth yet. Would poat a pic but a hermitt just walked across the clam and lights just went out so done for the day. At what point do you get concerned with no shell growth?

3 to 6 months for me. Clams that make it for years seem to take this long to put on new shell sometimes.
