How long can a small blue tang live in a 75 gallon tank before I have to rehome or upgrade the tank?

Really tough question to answer. Each fish is different. To some extent, you can tell by the fish's behavior when it has outgrown a tank. Blue tangs have odd behavior anyway, so it makes it even harder.

I will always recommend to stock the tank you have with fish you can keep forever. When you upgrade to a 180-240, then get the blue tang.
