How long should I expect this to last?

That skimmer looks like it’s in very deep water. I’m not familiar with that brand, but have you confirmed that it’s in the correct depth according to the manufacturer? That may be the reason the foam is so high.

Agree it’s either too deep, or the flow adjuster is turned to keep the water level too high.

Adjust the flow adjuster (a knob on the vertical pipe, don’t see it in this pic) to the lowest setting, if that doesn’t resolve this then you’ll need to raise the skimmer up to the recommended depth. If needed eggcrate can make decent shims.

9.5-11 I am actually at 11.5 Ile raise it up and the flow is on max

Raise your skimmer, (I put egg crate under mine) so it doesnt overflow, you'll find as it's bedding in you'll need to lower it again, takes a couple of days depending on bio load

Ah - If it’s like the Curve 5 “max” on the flow regulator means “max water height” or “max skim”. Turn the dial to min or so it’s halfway between the two max’s to keep water level in the skimmer low.

Not a curve 7 but I had to raise my curve 5 up to 7 inches to get it to skim properly. I also ran it for a week with the cup off before it settled down.

I’m up to 8.5 inches now and have it set on min minor improvement still overflowing

So max keeps the hole at the bottom wide open min closed it off seems like raising it and having it on max lessens the amount overflow but still overflowing

I’ve owned a curve 3 and a curve 5 before but never a elite version and never had trouble with them

I had this same skimmer it took a while to seat itself but when it does it’s a solid unit.
My suggestion would be to raise it until the bubbles are mid cone and run it for 48 hrs at that point the skimmer should have a good “slime” coat internally. From there you can fine tune depth and air to what you are looking to get.

Idk i can almost raise this out of the water and it won’t lower in the cone

Ah - it’s possible mine just has the dial on backwards or something. Because what you describe would make more sense for the naming.

It slowly made its way to the cup in done messing with it tonight going to let it just run hopefully it will be better in the morning and I can fine tune it


I’m more upset the manufacturer and BRS give you a window of 9-11.5 inches I built my sump baffles to 11 no I need to make a more permanent skimmer stand once i figure out where it likes to be

nothing is exact, it will work out great once it’s dialed in. Just takes time.
As far as a stand the light diffuser(egg crate) at Lowe’s or Home Depot and zip ties works mint.

I would raise it slightly again if the cup will be overflowing by the time I got home from work. Otherwise leave it and dump the cup when you get home.
