I have seen video's of fauna marin where they say the bolus method is better than keeping your kh stable all the time.
Does anyone have experience with this?

There is a long thread in the Reef Chem forum with plenty of information.

TLDR:
Most the claims are imaginary science, but it is still certainly a viable way to dose your aquarium if you wish.

From my perspective BOLUS is not only about Alk. It changes trace elements, light schedule, light intensity, duration etc…
When I tried it my tank didn’t like it and I lost few corals.
For example these just melted away:

Before BOLUS I could not kill them.

Others seem to like the results.

I think the method is quite intrusive, it tweaks lot of parameters and throws the idea of stability out the window.

Good luck,

BOLUS method makes changes to lot of things including lights,

I did increase light by 20%…

As I mentioned those zoa’s only perished under BOLUS method and I was only using FM products at the time.

Every tank is different and the only conclusion is that it didn’t work for my tank but seems to work on yours.

Right now I am using TM Original Balling methods and corals are looking great:

Especially when "it works" is such a purposefully ambiguous premise. I have not look too far, but am guessing that Claude has wished for this storm to blow over for the new year.

Have almost 6 months worth of experience with it. The issue for me is the term better. Better than what? If you are having success now then don't change things. I have seen better growth and some better coloration using it along with a boost in PH but if you have stable KH and don't have an issue you are trying to address, then I don't see any reason to change.
One reason I switched to it from AFR and Kalk, is that, like some others, it drove my CA to the upper 400's and my PH was only in the 7.8 - 7.9 range. I wanted to switch to 3 part just as Bolus was introduced on Reef Bum. It works for me and is less expensive than AFR. IMO, it is just one option of many out there that would help some and not others depending on the individual systems opportunities.

If it works better thant AFR i can't say but it is not cheaper if you use the bg AFR 1600g powder.

no way it comes from bolus when i tested it, it did nothing to my zoas and I have a lot, I'm also in many groups where people use it and nobody reported such a thing. It can come from many things. You can also do bolus with the tropic Marin product. Maybe you light increase.. Was too much for them

After thinking about this I suspect it was the light as well. But that is what the BOLUS HTU said to do.
BOLUS method as outlined in the document does change a lot of things.

Hopefully I can get my Zoas back…

Didn't say it works better than AFR unless you have an issue like I did where AFR was causing precipitation due to high Ca levels. Costing me about 36 cents per day currently. Versus AFR and Kalk and Trace elements. Either way nothing I'm going to lose sleep over.

For what I get from it I was doing that on an 8 gallon because I had no doser, just raise the KH for the day in the morning, don't get what's so daunting about it, as long as it's not like 2dkh a day should be fine. I crashed that tank with a phosphate peak eventually, but can't say I had problems with KH of any sort, except for the fact that was annoying.
