Hello everyone, getting back into the hobby after an 8 year break. Lots seems to have changed! I have decided to build a Reefer 525xl for a clean look. It will be a mixed reef. All advice and criticism welcome. Here is the equipment list so far: (lots still on the way will update later)
  • Red Sea Reefer 525XL
  • Neptune Systems Apex
  • Neptune Systems COR-20 Intelligent Return Pump (2000 GPH)
  • Finnex 300 Watt TH Heating Element
  • Reef Octopus Regal 150INT 6" Internal Protein Skimmer (VarioS)
  • (2x) Neptune Systems Apex WAV Pump Controllable Powerhead
  • (3x) Hydra 26HD
  • Neptune Systems MPR Magnetic Probe Rack
  • Marine Depot Aquarium Controller Board Mounting System
  • Bulk Reef Supply 6 Stage Deluxe 100GPD
The plan is to use 80-120 lbs of Real Reef rock and 60-80 lbs of Carib Sea Live Sand and start the cycle with Fritz Turbostart 900. I will add a few hardy fish during the cycle process.

Still have to decide on a UV Sterilizer, 1 or 2 media reactors, and a refugium light. I plan to use vinyl tube for the return pump until I purchase the reactor/sterilizer then I will design a manifold. More to come!

First thing I tackled was to add some cabinet lighting. I decided to use this: (Amazon Link)

The kit contained enough parts to light the cabinet (3 light bars over sump and 1 bar in the other cabinet) and secure the wiring. I would recommend it for a reefer 525 stand lighting solution.

Small update: Tank is filled with salt water and heated up to 79. Mounted the marinedepot controllerboard then secured my apex and pump controller. Liverock will be in soon.
