Bonsai or natural approach?

So as I hit the six month mark on my first tank that is mostly sps corals I'm beginning to see territory issues... I'm sure this is not uncommon for newbies especially, but I am sure it happens to almost all of us eventually from unexpected growth patterns, etc... .

My question is related to how each of us manage our tanks once this begins to happen. Do you go the bonsai route and try to keep corals trimmed down yet looking natural or do you let nature takes it course and allow these animals to touch and do battle? A little of both?

A good example in my tank is a birds nest that is growing super fast is close to touching the edges of a grafted Cap that is growing above it. Would you trim the birds nest or let them figure it out on their own? (example pic for reference)

Curious to hear different opinions on methods for growth control.

Little of both. I think the one risk with letting them duke it out is that it can stress a colony to total STN.
