Hi Guys, does anyone make their own boron mix with boric acid?

I gave an old recipe here, but i never needed to dose any boron to maintain normal levels:

Chemistry And The Aquarium: Boron In A Reef Tank
http://www.advancedaquarist.com/issues/dec2002/chem.htm
from it:

If you have a test kit, and want to supplement boron, you can also just use borax (from the grocery store; borax is 21.5% boron by weight) dissolved in water. One teaspoon will weigh about 4 grams, so 1 teaspoon in a 100 gallon tank will raise the boron level by 0.21 mM (2.3 ppm).

Awesome thank you

That for that was a good read, am i correct in thinking boric acid is stronger than borax or just a different make up. Just wondering if ar g rrade boric acid is cleaner to use than supermarket borax

Hi Randy I have read many of your comments where you write that in your tanks you did not need to dose potassium, boron and other things that some aquarists write about needing to dose.

But do you have or have you had a full sps aquarium? I ask because I don't know.. I looked on your profile and found a mixed tank with mostly soft and lps..

I’ve grown sps but my tank was never focussed on sps.

That said, there is also no reason to think that SPS corals use any more potassium than other photosynthetic organisms.

Perhaps a real acroporarium can become an absorber of all these elements?

It's not possible?

Deposition of calcium carbonate by any organism or no organism can entrap lots of ions, such as strontium, uranium, barium, lanthanum, etc. But that does not necessarily mean an organism making such a skeleton needs any of these ions.

Potassium is generally contained in cells. When tissue expands by growth, potassium is taken up. If that tissue is removed, say by harvesting macroalgae or skimming of bacteria, then potassium is entirely removed from the system.

As to a claim that boron is somehow related to color, that seems to lack evidence. Boron certainly can be needed by organisms, however. It is used in some biological processes.

Viene utilizzato in alcuni processi biologici.

I think a complete acropora system has a high requirement for many of the 70 elements...

Many of them go down.. And only replace them some color can be at max of brightness

Many elements deplete. Only some are useful to supplement. I think it is not correct to think acropora are special in terms of using and needing trace elements.
