I was awoken at 4am this morning by my gf to deal with our 95lb chocolate lab having a reaction to what we are assuming was licking a toad.

This happens every couple of months..she goes outside..gets into something...comes inside furiously licking everything in sight... trying to eat drapes and throw rugs...licking licking licking...

Then I have to try and get some benydryl down her...took her 5 hours to calm down this morning..and I had to follow her around the whole time to make sure she didnt' eat anything. I fell back asleep for 5 minutes around 6am..and she had chewed a big hole in my sheet on my bed...then threw up all over :(

She is sleeping now..and seems fine...but geesh..not how I like to start my week off.

What a mess. Sorry to hear about that. We used to have similar problems when I lived in Phoenix. The cats would go out after a rain and pick up a toad. They would then run around the house foaming at the mouth for hours. Pretty traumatic for small children who have just seen "Old Yeller".

Oh noooo! Get her to lick bread/crackers maybe... I'd say milk but she is a dog? Like when you lick jalapenos and have to get that off your tongue?

Poor baby, give her love for me...

She was better today...after talking more to my gf last nite...I found out that she actually hadn't been outside when this happened...she said that the Lab was eating breakfast...then laid down and started grooming herself and licked the throw rug for a moment... about five minutes later...all of this happened...

We're wondering if she gave herself a hairball..and then freaked out..I'm not sure... we just spent $300 at the vet on her annuals and getting some other things with her checked out ( she had a urinary tract infection ) ... if this happens again... we're going to take her in and have them check out her throat and maybe do allergy tests... usually it happens after she is outside..so this was a first... its very strange...benydryl always does the trick...but it makes her sleepy..so it might just calm her down enough for her to realize nothing is wrong .... not sure.
