What we’ve concluded it to be is a deep water tenuis. These are found “deeper” according to the divers. Comparing the growth pattern of branches and corallites etc. I’ve also tested with the “neighborly touch” with other typical tenuises and they do not fight.
Most acros seem to lose their battle with tenuises with a few exceptions of course.

Interesting, radials aren't in the rosette arrangement tenuis usually exhibit.

That statement won’t hurt sales these days... If that’s true then it will look like a normal tenuis in the new growth I would imagine. I like eymanns Id, looks spot on to me. I don’t think tenuis being found a little deeper than normal will change their structure that much but I am no expert.
Deepwater acros are just acros with smooth skin/spaced out polyps and a lot of people assume they are found in very deep areas from the nickname.

What? No! @SeaDweller is a very knowledgeable, old school reefer with a great looking reef, he really helped make me feel welcome when I first started posting, both of us reminisced of the "oldschool" ways of reefkeeping, I hope Im still on his good side?

This guy came to me in a dream from Malaysia mid last year. A dream shipment. Might be one of the best acros I’ve ever seen.

All I am doing is trying to have some conversation about what the coral might be. Did something I say rub you the wrong way or what?

You dont need a microscope to differentiate this from A. tenuis, the morphology simply isnt there.
and coral aggression is by no way a remotely reliable way to determine species.

A. striata and A. speciosa are the closest I have seen in morphology, but I dont have any letters in front of my name either.


Its a beautiful coral.... attitude....not so much.

I PM'd him "Hey, what's that rainbow colored deep water on page 3 of your thread? That thing looks incredible. I've never seen a piece like it and I'd like to get a frag." He replied with "Which rainbow colored frag? All of my pieces are rainbow colored so your description isn't helpful." Then I wrote "The only photograph on page 3 of your thread." He replied "Oh. That one. Yeah, I heard about your tank's phosphate issues from @Chaswood79 so I wouldn't even bother getting a piece if I were you. It won't look as nice in your tank."
