Branching Frogspawn issue
My branching frogspawn has developed a huge bubble (for lack of a better explanation) in the middle of one of its heads. It's at least two inches in diameter and is translucent.

Anybody have any idea what it is? It started growing about 2 months ago but has really expanded in the last week. The polyps around it appear shrucken and unhealthy. I would post a picture but I'm out of town and my wife can't figure out how to post a picture.

Any help would be appreciated. Should I remove the head?

I've had brown jelly disease before on other corals. This is not BJD. This appears to be a growth of some sort that is a part of the coral.

I am wondering if it is getting ready for a polyp drop, I have seen it before in LPS and it sounds like that is what is going on.

My frogspawn has done this when a head was splitting. It was really strange but eventually it split itself and all was fine. HTH GL

+1. My frogspawn had done this in the past prior to splitting as well.

A picture would be helpful. Is it discolored or just a big bubble? I would not remove the head unless somehting were to happen that would put the life of the coral at stake. I agree with the splitting from the sound of it assuming its just as you say, but a pic would be definitive.

+1 on that it might be splitting. But it did not take two months? It was about 2-3 weeks at the most. How many heads total on your frogspawn? IMO, I would frag it. If it was killing the other heads around it.

Definitely splitting. I posted a pic on here of mine a few years ago and they confirmed it. Sure enough, a week or two later, the bubble went away and a new head started to develop.

No discoloration, just a big translucent kind of pearlescent whitish bubble. No Pic available until I get home this weekend. Will post one then if it's still there.
