Breeding Peppermint Shrimp - 21 not so lucky number

I have been breeding peppermint with "ok" results. I have had good luck keeping many of them for several weeks. Then around day 21 I lose about 80% of them. The ones that survive will then grow up to be shrimp around day 45. The day 21 is like clockwork ( I have seen it more then 20 times).

Does anybody else have the same observation?
