Things are looking very healthy keep up the good workWell I just won my first battle with bubble algae. I noticed I had bubble algae growing between my Eagle Eye Zoas and the rock they’re attached to. I didn’t want to remove the rock so I took a more natural approach. I went out to Living Reef Orlando and picked up an Emerald Crab. Overnight the bubble algae was eaten along with random sponge growing around the tank. I’ll post some before and after shots below. I’m hoping the crab eats the pink sponge at the base of the frogspawn, then I won’t have to remove it manually. My little sps frags are growing very well. The Bird’s Nest, Kelly Green and monti are doing amazing. They are way up high on a frag rack so when I move them to the new tank I’ll have to make sure they’re up high as well.
Epoxy along should be enough...let set overnight
You only need about a dime size rolled up in a ball then it should squeeze as you press together the rock then let set. Do 1 rock then let set then another and so on
This is an awsome tank great job!It’s been so long since I’ve posted. We’ve made some big changes on the reef. I took the main rock out of the WaterBox Cube I gave up on (Long story but I had no time for a new tank with this crazy school year going on). I placed it in a bucket with a pump for a couple of weeks and let it sit with some TurboStart 900. I then swapped it out with the main rock that had gsp all over. I loved the neon green gsp but it was out of control. The tank looks more reef like now if that makes any sense.
I can admit I made too many changes at once though. First I swapped the a80 for the a160 light. Then I added the arch and glued all the sps then I swapped the main rock. Everything is growing great and looks spectacular. However, I am battling a small amount of green cyano on the sand bed. Nothing terrible and not even what I would consider ugly or outbreak level. Just annoying I guess. I refuse to consider chemical treatment at this point. I have discussed it with my mentor and I will use chemiclean if it gets to the point where it is necessary. Right now I will continue with my standard maintenance which includes my weekly 5 gallon water change.
I also recently received the small model of the new IceCap CO2 scrubber. I plan to document its use on my small nano reef. Specifically I’m going to see how it functions when paired with my two nano skimmers. I’m currently running a Tunze 9001 DC and I also have the IceCap K1 Nano skimmer. I want to see if the pumps on these nano skimmers are strong enough to pull the air through the scrubber. I look forward to using the new Hanna pH colorometer and raising the pH to increase growth in my aquarium.
Today we went to my favorite local shop. @TopShelfAquatics is by far my favorite shop here in Orlando. The guys there are easy to talk to and super down to Earth. I don’t feel stupid when I ask questions in their shop. I picked up a few goodies. 1 Fighting Conch, 1 Pincushion Urchin, 2 Astrea snails, and a bottle of mb7. The conch is the coolest creature. It immediately buried itself and its eyes and trunk popped up. Since the lights went out it’s been picking at the green cyano. Who knows, when I wake up tomorrow maybe it’ll have eaten some of the cyano. The Pincushion Urchin is neat the way it carries the Cerith snails around. My daughter loves it. I wanted to pick up the pH colorometer from them but it wasn’t in stock. Oh well, I’ll have to wait.
My phosphate and nitrate levels are the lowest they’ve ever been. I usually run NO3 at 10ppm and PO4 close to .3. Now I’m at 2.5-5ppm and .03-.05 respectively. Does this have anything to do with the cyano, not sure. I did have red cyano on some frags a while back when my nutrients were higher so i figure it might just live in my system when nutrient ratios change. If my nitrate stays low I’ll pick up the new Hanna colorometer as well.
Lastly I’m looking forward to getting a new Hydros Control very soon. I want to get a Control 4 for the tank and then a Control 2 for the water station in the garage. I am more than satisfied with the Aqamai kps pumps that I run but I am tempted to switch over to Tunze nano wavemakers so I can run a Hydros. I guess that’s it for now. On to the pictures.
oh almost forgot, my frog is splitting again and our Emerald Crab was murdered. We believe the blue legs were hired by the Duncan to get to take him out. The Emerald loved pulling tentacles off the Duncans.
