brittle starfish

Hi,

I bought 5 brittle starfish several month ago and just plopped them in the tank and never saw them again. Tonight when I fed the tank I saw a bunch of arms reaching out from within the rockwork. There seemed to be a lot more than 5 of them. Is this them and how they behave?

Pretty much, especially when they are small. You'll see an arm every now and then.

When they start to get bigger, they'll start ominously creeping out of hiding when the food hits the water. Equally awesome and creepy!

I got 5 also in a ball of chaeto some years ago.
Now I have a TON, so they obviously reproduce easily.

Every so often, I get a massive spawning event where a bunch are out, spewing a bunch of stuff into the water.
