I got brown hair algae about two weeks ago. Nitrates and phosphates tested very high. I got phosguard and a nitrate reducing filter pad. Also started feeding less. Today, I checked my params (with Hanna checkers) and they both read 0 ppm.

question: how long will it take for the brown hair algae to leave?
Also: do I need to remove the phosguard and pad?
Also: how do I bring my params back up to a good (but small) levels

Just got home to take the pics.

ignore my pulsing xenia, it fell from a fish knocking it over.

also, where it looks kinda blurry in the sand, it’s where I put leftover sand in from a different tank project.

Yeah that's not GHA in my opinion. I think you got Dinos or Cyano.

Got with one of my friends with a microscope and determined it was not dinos. So I’m going with cyano.
Could it be diatoms? I think that’s more likely than cyano because the latter is reddish and kind of slimy.
