Brown jelly disease?

Hello, I purchased some coral from a member on here and I received my delivery today. While dipping them, I realized that this holy grail hammer had some brown stuff on it. I think it’s removable because some of it dissolved in the water.

Is this brown jelly disease? Should I put this in my display tank?

Looks like it is brown jelly disease. I would try an lugol and peroxide dip for a few days. You can keep it in the tank but isolated away from other hammers and torches you might have. Place in low flow and low light for the meantime until it recovers. Hammers are generally more resilient and can survive given that the polyps are still extended.

Thanks for the advice! There were other Euphyllia coral in the order and I’ll be doing the same with them just in case. Do you think this is something I should contact the seller about?

For confirmation, if you smell it it is an unmistakable awful smell, the it’s bjd.

Yea, that frag had a very rotten smell. I don’t think the other coral smelled that bad.

Really, the only hope of saving it is get your hands on some Cipro ASAP and dose it. It may be too late, sorry, it acts fast. I always have Cipro on hand.

I would, you need to prepare for DOA policy enforcement.

I don’t think I’ll be putting it in my display then to prevent the others from being infected.

I’ve already put in the other frags I received. Are there any symptoms right now that would tell me if they have brown jelly? Or would the brown jelly suddenly start showing?

We’re they together at any point in the same water?

I believe the vendor had them in the same tank. Their colonies were next to each other in the videos they sent me. Because of that, I also dipped the frags together.

Keep an eye on the others and in the meantime get your hands on some Cipro just in case.

I see recession over BJD and smell is present with many euphyllia. If it was open when you acquired it, some causes for stress will be too much bright light, too much flow, low calcium, high phosphate and presence of copper from previous treatment and even when using Tap water , If using any tap water
