Edited out....old post read.
Nitrate good....phosphate zero....if true....nutrient imbalance which leads to pest algae’s.
A balance would be nitrate 2-5ppm.....phosphate 0.03. - .1 max.......

So if my nitrate are high (say 25ppm) and phosphate 0, I get Cyano. As soon as I lower nitrates to say 5ppm and increase phosphate to say 0.05ppm, in two weeks I have white sand again.

If my nitrate is high (say 25ppm) and phosphate is high say .25ppm, I get pest green hair algae. When lower both, the green hair disappears but takes much longer.

IMO, nutrients must be in trace amount and in balance with each other. I try to keep phosphate at 1/10th of my nitrate..
