Brownish algae strings on coral & on sand

Hello,

The last 2 weeks or so my corals are getting these brownish algae strings on them wish is making them very unhappy.

Some places on my live rock & sand also have this rusty brown looking algae.

I’m suspecting that there is silicates in my RODI water but my TDS meter still shows 0 tho..

I have a top end filter after my RODI system wich is filled with extra resin & i replaced the resin a week ago.

Could someone assist me in eliminating this bad algae?
Can i test for silicates myself?

Looks like dinos, do you have a nitrate test kit? Mine typically pop up with 0 nitrate. I dose phyto and calcium nitrate daily till they go away. A couple days no light can get things kick started if it is them.

Tank is 1,5 years old. I use just a skimmer & carbon dosing.

My tank never really hit 0 nitrate, usually been around 10 lately. I’ll do some testing tho. I had silicates pop up on my last RODI ICP

How often do you do water changes? Dinos will feed on silicates and can bloom at any time. I don’t suspect this is diatoms since you are past that phase and seeing it on corals leads me to believe other wise however they are close in appearance. Are there o2 bubbles in it and snot looking strands? Diatoms also feed on silicates so it’s a 50/50 shot depending on what this looks like in person. Personally I would blow it off of the corals with a turkey baster to help save them. Depending on levels I would do a w/c to soak up as much as I could.

Once every 2 weeks, about 20%.

They have bubbles & snot yes.
I'm gonna test my silicate to make sure & start my battle against dino's lol.

Agreed with the posts above that it looks like Dinos. Lots of threads on the board on how to combat.

Thanks for the extra confirmation, i have found multiple natural treatments on Dino's & i will be applying them asap, i will not go chemical if i don't have to.
