Which brs carbon should I use?

I'm putting together an order for BRS and I went to order carbon...but there are three kinds (or is it four?)! I notice that the "best" and "second best" are quite far apart in price (the best is almost double the runner-up's price). Is the best stuff worth paying twice as much for, or can this tightwad reefer get by just fine with second best? Can somebody who has already made this decision help me out?

Well, I use "the best", ROX .08. When you rinse it there is little to no dust. In one aquarium I have it in a bag in a very high flow area of the sump. In another aquarium I have it set up in a GFO/carbon mix reactor. Because I use it in these ways is why I got it. It's very uniform in size and doesn't leaks through the holes in the bag. I doubt this answers your question.

Rox .08 is a very efficient carbon and is among the best out there for what we need.

Great article. I'm curious if its the use of carbon or any residual dust that is a result of improper rinsing or improper application (carbon grinding to create dust)

The difference in the 3 that they offer is particle size, how porous each is and the amount of dust that they have or rinse time. The Rox is generally the best as it is very porous which allows it to absorb more impurities out of the water and contains very low to little dust. The next would be the small particle carbon which is still porous has good surface area for absorption but is very very dusty. The large particle works well, not as porous as the previous two but is less dusty then the small particle.

Too keep it simple you need twice as much of the small or large particle carbon to equal one serving of the Rox carbon. Regardless of which one you get the general practice is to change out carbon every two weeks or when you notice water clarity is suffering.
