My wife is bemused (EDIT: annoyed) that the only area in my life where I’m even a little OCD is my tank. I can abide a shocking amount of dirty laundry, and for some reason will load the dishwasher but not unload it under any circumstance. But if there’s a cable out of place in my sump, I become visibly agitated.
Part of my inexplicable behavior is a need for my Brute cans to be color coordinated. I wanted blue for my RO/DI water and white for mixed saltwater. I wanted flat lids, rather than the typical convex lids. This is not the sort of stuff they carry at my local Home Depot, so I searched online.
I found that restaurant supply places carry all sorts of options, though some don’t sell to the public. I found one that did, at reasonable prices, only to get to checkout and see that shipping would be over $200!
The I found Zoro.com. I’d used them once before, for some sort of DeWalt tool I think, but they aren’t top of mind. They should be! They have all the sizes of Brute cans, many available in white, red, blue, black, yellow, gray, or green. They have flat lids as well as convex. They have dollies. Just for price comparison, I bought two 44 gallon cans for $61.99 apiece. The flat lids were $25.45 apiece. The dollies are available in different SKUs; I bought one supposedly rated for 350 lbs for $77.50 apiece, more than the typical 250 lb capacity, which can’t handle the water load for anything larger than a 33 gallon can. I had a 10% code for joining their email list; it didn’t work on the cans, but did on the rest, saving around $20.
The site claimed FREE OVERNIGHT SHIPPING. Yeah, right. Especially for something this size, and on NYE. I ordered these yesterday afternoon. I’ll be darned if FedEx didn’t show up today at 1:30. I live in a rural upstate NY area. They sent garbage cans overnight. For free.
Save yourself from the tyranny of drab gray Brute cans with stupid lids! Express yourself!
This has been a Public Service Announcement for fellow reefers who also have too much time on their hands.
