Hi Reefers, I have a 180g mature mixed reef tank that is under attack from what i'm pretty sure is Bryopsis (see photo). I've dealt with Blue Clove Polyps and many other issues but this is a first with Bryopsis. I did what most of us always due with an issue - read a lot of threads and watched some videos and I wanted to get some feedback from others who have dosed fluconazole to get rid of bryopsis.

My question is on how much to dose? The recommended dosage is 20mg per gallon but i've read of people doing 1/2 that or even one guy who "microdosed" his tank and it was effective. I def would like to use as little as possible to not overload my system with a chemical solution unnecessarily. Would love to hear from others who have gone down this path and how much they dosed and if they had any issues with dosing fluconazole.

I was in a similar situation and dosed a fifth of a dose, if I remember well.

Worked a dream in a couple of weeks.

Did not need a second dose.

I also have a mixed reef.

Manual removal of as much as you reasonably can is advised. Stops too much dieing going on (of bryopsis)

Thanks ! That’s the plan. Was thinking 1/2 dose but now maybe just 1/4 after removing as much as possible

My bryopsis was bad. Freshwater planted tank guys would be jealous of the carpet I had. I let it get way out of control. I used the full dose, killed 99% of it in like 2 weeks but missed some stubborn stuff. Waited two weeks after that then used another 1/2 dose and have been clear of it for months now.

First dose I turned skimmer off and did no water changes. Second dose I left skimmer on and did weekly 20% water changes.

Thanks for the info. I’m on the bad and about to get really bad scale so thinking I’ll do at least 1/2 dose after manually trying to remove most

I'm convinced that when I tried to manually remove it that it made it significantly worse.

So i’ve been battling this dreaded beast for 9 months. Manual removal pulling clumps but it almost seems like it spreads more.
25 year reefer and never had it like this.
It was even cropping up on shafts of hammers and torches nowhere near the main trouble spots.

Decided to use Reef flux and saw the micro dose thread. Used 1/2 dose on my prostar 200.
Day 1 and 2 post dose nothing. Now day 3 Bryopsis is turning white.
See photos on day 3.
Keeping an eye on the PO4 thus far minimal effect on Alk consumption.

Update on this: I did the 1/2 dose and didn't see much until about the 4th or 5th day - bryopsis started turning white where it was thinner. A couple of the larger clumps looked about the same i was starting to worry. Larger clumps started turning white and thinning around a week in. Now full 15 days since the dose and all is gone! Did a water change 2 days ago and am happy to report tank looks great. No side effects that i can tell.

I’m curious if mine follows a similar trajectory.
