Out of curiousity, I understand that BTAs will only bubble up as a hit or miss which I rarely see mine doing, but why is it that the LFS or internet sales always have their BTAs bubbled up? Is it their water parameters that are the most optimum conditions?
Just things that make me go hmmmmm???? :squigglemouth:

I don't think that anyone has really figured out why BTAs bubble. Some say lighting, other say feeding or salinity.

Mine is always bubbled and there is no way I have the best water quality or best lighting. I do monthly 20% water changes and have a 4 bulb t5 system on a 20" deep tank. I believe it's just luck of the draw as me and my friend have the same equipment and we each bought a split of rbta. Mine bubbles constantly and his doesn't.

I find it amazing that all the most of the sites that sell BTAs have a beautiful bubbled up BTA, perhaps it recycled pictures that would make the best for advertising I presume.

I have had mine for two weeks now. So I may not be the best to answer it. However, It seems to be bubbled up when it is happy. It seems to loose it's bubbles when it is looking for food. I say this because it will bubble up right after I feed it a chuck of fish or shrimp.

I have also noticed, that since my clowns have decided that it is ok to host it, the bubles don't seem to be as large.

I hope unhappy is not the reason for bubbled tips because I will only see partial bubble tips whether or not its been fed. I suppose its one of those unexplained wonders....

All the bubbles that we have ever gotten (over 100) always bubbled nicely once settled in, bad (nano cube with no water change for over a year) or good (Pristine sps quality water) water they still bubble. I think it has more to do with the strain.

Actually they were from the same strain. The colors were not as vibrant in the nano as the ones in our regular display tanks.

I was always led to believe that anemones bubbled with higher amounts of light and a pretty pristine water quality... kinda like with Xenia. I guess genetics trumps environment for this coral. ;)

I know of people with splits from the same anemone. One bubbled, the other didn't.

I have 3 in my tank,1 RBTA which recently split and 1 GBTA,the RBTA has never bubbled for me but the original that it split from has splits that are bubbling all the time,my GBTA had never bubbled until it was sick for a while,I nursed it back to health and it practically stays bubbled now, they're so much nicer looking when they're bubbled but it's hit and miss with that....I think it's multiple reasons that they do it but I don't know what those reasons are LOL

I don't think it has anything to do with water flow or lighting intensity as they will usually move until they are comfortable....water chemistry probable has something to do with it,water temperature maybe, lighting color may be part of it,type of food they receive may be part of it...who knows...it would be great if someone could figure it out though :D

It seems they have so many variables when it comes to BTAs. The strain, the water, the flow, the lighting, feeding, etc...it's almost impossible to pinpoint. I agree i think it really is hit or miss!

After reading redtop's post I don't now what to think.. I guess it honestly means we just don't know, but like he said... I hope someone figures it out!
