Bta has lost his pop.....

Well as most of you know I got a signature nem "completely amazing!!!" the day I got it I about dropped to the floor... It came from a t5 tank yada yada yada... Well it's fully healed and eating when fed etc but has lost his pop!!!! Now it's just a deep red color with slight bleaching I guess in a spot or 2..... Any idea what to do??? My lighting is as follows...
LEDs 8 hours a day
T5's 6 hours a day
And mh 4 hours a day...
This is a sps reef so I feel I can't cut it back much more and my aquascape is all cemented in one gigantic piece so moving the rock down isn't a option... I'm not even sure the lights are the problem here... All params are very stable...

Oh yea I feed it every other day mysis, pellets, reef caviar and krill

I think its WAY to much light for a BTA,I think its over kill.Unfortunatly,since its a SPS tank,it will be hard to cut things back,my suggestion is to movethe nem to a shaded area and get it some foods,feed every 3 days and shade it!

Hmmmm kind of hard to do... Don't you think he would move to a more desirable place on it's own if it wasn't happy??? It's top and center of my tank haha... The highest peak I put him like 8" down and he went there..:tongue:

If he is happy,he wont move,but his rainbow color dosent show happines. Its just like with SPS,they can morph colors and still be healthy, its the same thing with a nem.

Hmmmm I could shade him maybe.... Makes sense Austin he is also tucked so far into a hole it doesn't bubble up the greatest any more either I barely get to see the mouth unless it's Hungry lol...

Try and shade him and see if color comes back,Ive never seen alot of anemones kept under LED's,T5,and MH,this is actully my first!Its got to be the lighting,when I had my anemone tank,I never check the levels in the tank,the lighting was always what was wrong if color changed on me!

You cant always garuntee that color will transfer from tank to tank.

I believe it your lighting bro you can't setup a small nano with those snows you got and put the nem in there if you can't do it I think I can lmk :wink: shading the nem could work but I've also found out that in this hobby what looks like 1 thing in this tank will not neccasarily look the same in the next :squigglemouth:

We have an 8 ft shallow tank with nothing but nems. We blast them with 3 150w phoenix for about 7 hours a day and it works. I'd say they're about 2 1/2 feet from the lights. We also feed a variety similar to yours.

Can't you make something to cover a lil bit of the light above the Nem. To give it a lil shadow. Also a lil trick I use to release there footing. I rub some rodi ice cube over or around there foot. They will start to release and help along the way with my fingers but use cloves. This works everytime for me.

I have been trying to get my bta to hold its orange and yellows. A t5 tank seems to be key.

You mean the ability to use many different color t-5 bulbs lets you maintain orange color.
Anemones can look different colors based on lighting.

Just like any animal with azanth. Bacteria you are seeing a refraction of the light off the bacteria. More light will cause the specimen to look lighter. less light causes a darkening up to a certain extent. There its no explanation for the bubbly tips. Everyone wants to know that one

I agree, all my bta's prefer lower lighting. My tank that was lit by 250 halide they would always sit on the sides where there is less light. All my BTA's did better under N.O. fluorescents and hated t-5 lighting which is very intense.

I agree with this too.. This is why I don’t understand why people spend such big bucks on these bta's, in most cases they do not stay that color anyway.

Bta's do not do as well in sps tanks but seem to do well in tanks geared towards lps. They do not like the bright lights, flow and super low nutrients.

interesting.. all i ever hear is how there light hogs and this and that.... i always ran a ulns but this tank i went different.... i still dose vodka enough to keep it clean but i feed it super heavy and let some algae grow here and there... seems like my sticks like it better i have seen richer colors and better growth than i did running ulns.... hmmm i'll see what i can do to change things and get that pop back.... so for the most part we can agree it's the lighting then?? not some params or anything???

Some will bash me for this, but I never checked my params,or hardly done a waterchange on my anemone tank,it was all natural,never dosed anything,waterchanged,etc. the anemones,grew,split,and were perfectly healthy. I take that back,I done a waterchange maybe 2 times a year!lol,but still!

I think it would be the lighting.All anemones arent light hogs,Magnifica,Gigantea,and Haddoni's,are the light hogs.

well i have 2 options here... 1 is cut the lights back my sps are still showing great signs of growth and color actually better than ever before.. or raise the light fixture up... right now i think im 14" off the water i can go all the way to 5ft above the tank haha.... ill cut them back and see how everything reacts... i mean heck if it wasn't for the nem and my caring for it my sticks wouldn't be doing as well as they are... maybe its a blessing... lol im sure the phoniex 14k hqi is a par beast on top off 3 blue+ t5's and a purple+ and 36 3w cree royal blues ran at 100 percent intensity my par is got to be around 1,000 where the nem sits..... easily... i would guess im getting about 500 in the sand since it's a shallow tank....:sad:
