BTA's and Percula Black coloration...

I read something about this a while back but I don't remember if BTA's help in getting the black or not. from my short experience, it's mixed. I found that some of the Picasso's that doesn't host the BTA's too often develop the black faster. although some of the ones that host the BTA's consistently also develop the black. my Picasso's are only coming up to 5 months old so I dunno if they just get the black as they age. I've spoken to a few breeder's and they say that the black coloration will develop with age and the genetics of the parents. and it's not really dependent on their host. so, I dunno if I should be concern about the BTA's preventing the Picasso's on develop their black coloration.

My ORA male was about 4 months old when I got my RBTA and had only shown an outline of black around his white till this point. Almost immediately after I added the BTA, his cap began to come in.

I also added a female at the same time so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

The male also started hosting the BTA within an hour of me putting it in the tank.

I don't know about the picasso's but I have a true percula that had very distinct black and when he started hosting the BTA the black began to fade. It is almost like a shadow now. I have seen this quite a bit.

mine delayed and actually muted the black. once i removed the bta's it really started to come in jet black

I remember reading somewhere they lose it with a bta but gain with carpets... Can't remember where I read the article thou... Carpets are suppose to help clowns keep there colors and bubbles take it away....

hmmmm... it will be interesting how my Picasso's will react to the BTA's. so far, they are still developing their black. I wonder if the decrease in black color is more noticable with wild caught Perculas.
