Bubble Magus Curve 5 LOUD!

Hi,

since 3 Months I own a Bubble Magus Curve 5. I've read that its supposed to be silent, but mine is definitely not. As soon as I plug it in, a loud suction noise is coming from the Venturi and is not reduced by the Air Silencer. I've tried to but some Cotton in the silencer, didn't worked. I also took the pump apart and everything seems to be good. Airline and Venturi are not blocked. Skimmer sits in about 8''.

I have the same skimmer. Dead silent. Are their any holes in the silicone tube? Did you recently clean this skimmer? Take it apart and out back together again? Make sure the holes on bubble plate are not directly over outlet of pump. Did you contact company or where you purchased? What happens when you block the hole with finger? Does water level in skimmer body rise?

Can you post a couple pics of the area the noise is coming from and the skimmer while its working. I have a Curve 5 I will compare the two and see if we can see what's off.

You could try to build a second silencer, mine. I can hear mine sucking in air too

I have one also, don't care for it but it is dead silent. Not sure there's much to go wrong with a silencer, unless it's damaged in some way.

So I took apart the skimmer and put it back togehter. Still no change in the noise level. The tubing is fine and when i block the airintake its relatively silent.

Edit: After good cleaning no change. Bubbleplate holes are not directly over the output. Without the venturi the skimmer is so silent, but with it it creates these weird sucking noises

Put a CO2 scrubber on the air intake. I did that with my Curve 7 and I cannot hear it running. Bought a filter housing on Amazon for $10, used some tubing and fittings I had already, purchased the media from BRS. PH is now finally above 8 and skimmer is dead silent.

Have you tried adding a silencer to the silencer using idk the pill bottle mod? I had a curve 5 and I constantly had to check it was running as it made no noise at all. I would possibly consider contacting them over warranty rma if it bothers you that much.

Contacted them since 2 weeks no response. I'm planning on asking my lfs tomorrow, thats where I bought it from. And no I haven't tried to at a silencer to the silencer :D

Sorry. Just a quick and dirty hack I have heard about before. I haven't tried it myself. Going to the seller might have some benefits though. Although if you have had it 3 months I'm not sure they are required to help.

If possible try mounting that silencer upside down in the bracket.

Should I also but the airline tubing in the other opening or leave it where it is?

I have the same skimmer and I believe that if your skimmer is running loud, them there is something blocking the air leaving the pump into the Venturi. I would detach the white nozzle connected to the pump and look through the tube hole. See if it is blocked.i would also take a skinny Phillips head screw driver or similar tool and push it through the hole while running it under water to remove any buildup or blockage and then reinstall it. Hopefully that will work. It has for me.
