Hey everyone. Got this nice little skimmer about 2 months ago or so for my wife's newly ser up 20g. We got it broke in after 2 weeks of overflowing and clear water.

Did our first water change, and it has been nonstop overflowing ever since and hasn't gotten back to a normal collection. Is this due to such a light bio load in the tank, and nothing really to skim?

We moved my wife's clowns to the tank originally and they came down with a bacterial infection and passed. Currently the tank has a few snails, 2 hermit crabs, and 4 soft corals.

I wonder if we need to just shut it off until we get more stuff into the tank, or let it keep running and flowing back into the tank to get it back broken in? Thanks!

The biolaod is low but you should still be able to get it running correctly. Either turn down the air intake if it has one or lower the water level in the skimmer body or both. Besides pulling organics out of the water it helps to aerate the water. Also check your sg make sure after the wc you didnt accidentally lower it. Depending on the device you use to check sg you may need to calibrate your device or cross check it with something else, maybe an lfs.

Raising the entire skimmer up also helped me. I have mine probably 1.5"-2" above the water line that's marked on the skimmer body. That allows me to turn the internal water level down to produce a drier skimmate.

Edit: I just measured mine. My external water level marker is 1.75" above the water. My internal water level (adjustable with the knob) is set almost even with the external water level marker. I find that this gives me a good skim that's not too wet.

That fixed ours immediately. Thank you!
