No protein skimmer & water changes like 2 gallons every 2 weeks

Good looking Nem my friend. Mine does the same thing, comes out during the day and is nice and full (I swear it's grown about 30% since I got him 3 months ago) and tucks back under his rock at night. His foot has to be about 6" long from where it's attached under the rock to where he comes out at.

Hi, nems are perculiar creatures. Inflating and shrinking at night is normal but the de shrivelled and expelling of brown stuff if constant is not so normal . If it’s new to the tank give it time to sort itself to yur water otherwise just monitor . It looks good most of the time from your pictures just be wary if it stays stringy and the mouth starts to get big and stay open for long lengths of time . Your lighting should be ample for Nem care so feedings are really just supplemental as he will get his energy from the lighting . You can feed to encourage quicker growth but be careful with amounts in your size tank as anemones can sure poop and this won’t help your water condition if too regular.

Welcome to Nem world and R2R . Good luck
