Is there really a difference besides sch80 requires a larger diameter hole in the tank. Doing a new build and couple of my tank buddies say go sch80. I have never had an issue with sch40. I would go with Sch80 bulkhead if they came in black. On the back wall of a tank grey doesn’t go to well with a black back wall. Just want to hear the communities thoughts.

Unless you plan to run the pipes under pressure, either will work fine. Most are plumbed sch 80 to the tank and sch 40 to the sump. There can be slight pressure from the return pump but not anything that will REQUIRE sch 80. People use sch 40 for the plumbing to the sump because the larger internal diameter allows for a higher water volume to flow from the tank to the sump since it’s gravity fed.

I’m doing sch80 fittings with sch40 pipes, best of both worlds. Larger Sch40 pipe ID gives more flow and color options. Sch80 fittings cos BRS offers more varieties over Sch40.
