My gawd guy (lonely reef) please do a little research and objectively place blame where it's deserved and understand BRS position here.
First and foremost credit card companies have to take care of this sort of thing. Thus is there agreement with consumer for which we pay fee's and interest. That same agreement is with all merchants regulated through multiple governing bodies, else no business would honor our plastic in fear of being stuck with the fraud.... Business like consumers also pay heavy fee's for the service.
Understanding BRS position is truly understanding what it is to be "stuck between a rock and a hard place". For no matter what they do they've lost, there just is no good solution but further bad. From a large business management officers perspective (my own) I'm sure for the last few months their attorneys and business partners, Board or what have you have been locked down in damage control. First order of business is emergency management, containment and clean up.
I have repeatedly said I understand there position and I think they will take care of everything. I just want to make sure the word gets to everyone out there about the breach there's already been several people that have posted here saying they received no letter and have already confirmed they were hacked so how many others are there? Surely you are not criticizing someone for looking out for a fellow reefers trying to alert them to the problem why would anyone do that.
Brs first and foremost is a buisness they look over there own interests first they'd be stupid not to but like an above poster has already stated a blanket email like we all get once a week to inform people there info may have been taken could be done in a day I just don't understand that. I don't really care what anyone thinks of me I'm not bashing
brs they are a great company I will still say that and I'm sure if anyone gets charges or problems from this they will take care of it. Also surely there systems will be updated and secure. I'd also venture that other reefing companies will take notice and better securethere sites better.
Secondly although I'm sure
brs thought they had great online security as do most companies that are hacked they obviously didn't. If it's not there fault for not having adequate security who's fault is it. Yours? The credit card is responsible for another company getting hacked? That sounds ridiculous.
Let's be realistic there a great company that had an unfortunate hack take place now there on damage control and trying to clean this up and keep it quiet a blanket email may shake consumer confidence in there company and they will lose sales surely as a buisness manager you considered this. The credit card company doesn't catch every bad sale it's the consumers job to alert them of fraud usually unless they notice a very awkward charge. It's happend to me.
Brs is a great company ran by good men but it's still a business and businesses look after themselves first it's the way of the world. They have to limbo between saving face not losing business and taking care of consumers effected. A very hard thing no doubt.
My whole goal is to try to alert fellow reefers they may have been subjected to problems because it is quite obvious just based on the few posts here that there have been people that haven't received letters or been alerted about this yet and have already been hacked and had problems. A blanket email like they are able to do every week for sales could alert thousands instantly they obviously won't do that so its reefers job to share this info and let each other no to be on alert and contact
brs and find out if you were effected.
So for everyone saying don't bash
brs I'm not there a good company but they are doing what's best for them not for us there a buisness first. If they were doing what's best for us there would be a blanket email and a banner on there homepage saying please check your cards and change your passwords on the site. Anyone that disagrees with this I really can't understand why you wouldn't want to alert all your friends and fellow reefers as soon as possible to a potential problem. I love this community and have never met a bad reefer or another person in the hobby I didn't like so when I have the chance to possible alert others to a problem after all the help I've received I'm doin it.
