Hello R2R!

I recently came into possession of 2 button scolys. One of them seems to be healthy but doesn't have color although not bleached as far as I can tell. The other one, seems pretty recessed but has color.

For the one that seems healthy but colorless:
- Is it actually healthy if colorless?
- Can color develop later?
- Is there anything I can do to encourage color?

For the one that has color but is recessed
- Do you think it'll recover?
- Is there anything I can do to assist it in recovering?
- It looks like there may be some algae growth. Typically it was on the skeleton I'd just brush it off but I'm not sure as it's close to fleshy areas

Both pieces are sitting on the sandbed and in a relatively low flow area. I am noticing that the one struggling seems to have substrate on it but I think that was from the hermit crabs.

I've seen some miracle comebacks posted on this forum so anything is possible.

The one with color though to me looks pretty bad, and algae is a really bad sign.

the other one I would spot feed a little mysis at night 1-2x a week. See if its feeder tentacles come out... If they do its pretty healthy.

Fingers crossed! The one with color came like that from the vendor so hopefully it's mostly shipping stress. This is roughly 1 day after being in tank so hopefully it bounces back a little more. Need my hermits to do a little bit more work and clean out the algae

If not, I may reach out to the vendor and see if they can help me in some way

I’ve seen some pretty bad looking corals make a comeback. Best thing you can do is keep it free from debris namely sand and if your tank is stable it has a chance

I’ll definitely try my best. It’s unfortunately a nano quarantine tank with a broken ATO so I’m not manually checking multiple times a day and adjusting. I have more stable tanks but scared of not running the full QT period. New ATO should arrive tomorrow though

May have jumped the gun a little but they look a lot better now with more blue spectrum. Looks like my hermits also put in some work clearing out the algae from the colorful one. I'm hopeful now that they'll look even better in time
