Buying direct from Hawaii divers

Has anyone ever bought direct? I have seen some ridiculous prices......large achilles $28, yellow, $10, adult orange shoulder $20......

You need a minimum of $500....but still.....a large achilles can run near that by itself retail.....

I guess if you had a large system this would be the way to go. Or you could always do a group buy with a few buddies.

Yea why not, the 500 part is a min for diving compensation and they acually arent rediculas prices, thats how much they really cost lolol

I work at a lfs lol thats acually a good price large achillies usually run around 50 bucks, purple tangs are 70 yellows are 5 ,10 orange shoulders are 20

They likely buy from a wholesaler not supplier thats why it may be more

Yeah, not many lfs are buying straight from the collectors.

Cutting out the middle man will always lower the price substantially. I get things from local divers. Just be sure they have all the permits. Don't want to get caught up in an illegal harvesting ring.

With that also comes the risk the wholesalers take on with diseases and doa. I'm willing to bet the doa policy coming from the divers is that you just have to eat the cost.

Generally they have at most an arrive alive guarantee but you are not going to get any more than that. QT is a must with these fish though. You will get fish with more uncommon ailments this way. Generally they die during the prolonged wholesale experience but being shipped directly to us we can try and cure them.

Seems like these fish should come in well if the company is actually doing what it says. They also say they will reimburse DOA with a pic in bag
