I have a 300 gallon system and am currently changing things up so i can start corals in it. I want to get my lighting all set up, currently only have a led black box im the middle dosing light the whole tank up. My tank is 88 inches Long and 61 inches wide. My question is will a hybrid t5 61inch by 18 inch be enough to cover or do i need to cover every inch of the tank?

It will not. With a tank you size, getting out of the mindset of “will x be enough” will be very vital. Cutting corners will lead to frustration and livestock loss

With a black box you will get about a 24”x 24” coverage area. Six I think would be the bare minimum depending on what kind of corals you want to keep. The ocean revive T47 have a little better coverage than a standard black box and work really well.

No. You can have a few inches on The sides, and front and back. Think about 48” fixtures run sideways. You got some planning to do. I’m a big fan of t5 and hybrid.
