Hello,

i'm going to get myself a pair of clownfish (Amphiprion Occelaris) next monday.
But my question to you clownfish experts is: what is the best picking choice i can make to decrease the chance of them fighting?
Should i choose 2 small ones identical size or should i choose 1 bigger & 1 smaller?
i'm going to a LFS so a confirmed couple is gonna be tough to get i think.

Thank you for your expertise!

You can not stop them from fighting. It is through this process that they establish which will be the male and which will be the female.

Pick two small youngsters and let them grow up in the tank together. Once they decide who is male and who is female, they will get along swimmingly (get it?). :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:

1 bigger one smaller is always the one to decrease the amount of fighting.

dang, 2 replies & 2 complete different opinions.
If you do want them to decide their gender and be a pair together then yes get them while they are young, but this can make them fight and it might not work out. If you get them one big one small already decided gender they will still swim together and there will be minimal fighting

I feel like I just was getting at how to minimize fighting and Dom was getting at how to pair them

That’s totally how it works.

Yeah..... could have expected it lol
I like the 2 smaller ones tactic more tho, i'm just scared they will fight too much.
There is always the chance of fighting but I do believe it will be very cool to watch them pair if you're up for the chance of something bad happening

i have read multiple posts where they seperate them just to let one recover & then try again.
Oh yeah if that's what you're trying to do that should work I don't see why it wouldn't. Whatever you decide to do best of luck!
