Buying quarantined fish...

Can you please share any form of communication with
You where we promised you that the angels will be a pair (male and a female)

you ordered captive bred and captive bred fish are too young to assess gender.
So please I would like to see that communication where we promised you that it will be definitely a male and female angel pair.
Wow mr. dr reef sniped your post lol, well i hope you guys work it out.

in a few month, (maybe 6-7 months) i will call Dr. Reef to see what you guys have in stock :D

I am not attacking him. Maybe my teammates made a mistake. Thats why I wanna see so i can train my team better. We dont wanna run into these problems.
And if they did promise you wrongly then I apologize ahead of time and will issue you a $330 dr reefs gift card. (Amount you paid for the angels)

I don't buy fish online but if I did I would place them in an observation tank for a month or so, even QTed fish. All new additions go into an observation tank. It also gives them time to become acclimated to tank life including eating what I feed my tanks. I won't take fish out of observation until the are are out front looking for food when they see me. If they're hiding all the time they won't survive in my tanks with other fish that are aggressive eaters.
I don't run a bare tank with pvc fitting, my observation is a 40g breeder with live rock and corals.
This. Do this. Ought to be standard since LFS's have gotten so rare.

If I were running a QT tank, I’d definitely get a UV sterilizer. But for a display tank, I feel like it could potentially do more harm than good since it kills a lot of things, although obviously not everything.

I get what you mean, though. It definitely helps lower the chances of disease spreading. It’s probably something I might invest in later.
Micron filtration can be just as effective and can also be easier to deploy. Either is worth considering. If you're in a hard core situation, then both could be called for.

(How much of a premium are people paying for "pre QT'd fish"??? Seems to me if the QT is pre-shipping, it's of significantly less value that QT'ing at the LFS or your house.)

I've ordered from Dr Reefs about three times. Have always received extras and fish were in great condition.

I ordered wrasse as well and they arrived fine. I did have a mystery wrasse come in and then hide never to be seen but not Dr Reef's fault.

I used to run a quarantine tank but just ordering and dropping the fish in is so easy

Yes you were wrongly told that those flames can be paired. That information was incorrect so as per my promise

I apologize to you and issue you credit of $330. The amount you paid for the angels.

You have a pending order. Please dont pay it. I will make that paid on our end and send you the gift card for the difference. Again i apologize for my teams mistake.

I see people questioning vendors all the time here on R2R. But Dr. Reef sets the bar pretty high.
Doesn't get any better than this.

Have always received extras
This right here is a problem IMO. I understand the thought so the good Dr. need not respond as this has already been discussed along with Thursday shipping for Friday delivery.
Problem is many people run a single tank and often 2 of the same fish can not be placed in the same tank. What happens if they both arrive healthy? I suppose a LFS might take it but what if someone doesn't have a LFS? Do they set up a new tank for one fish or flush it? It sounds good and generous but I think it's done because it's easier and cheaper to ship an extra than having to honor the doa policy.

Don't you have to check a box on his website that says you are ok with extra fish?
Pretty sure I did.

TBH I don't know. I won't buy from him. If so then it's on the purchaser.
I'm sure it's under smaller fish. Maybe less expensive fish.
I'm sure if and when I order a Gem Tang or a Regal Angel there won't be that option.

I have no doubt you are correct.
PS even if the expensive fish is a difficult shipper which is supposed to be the reason for it.

okay.... get your tomatoes ready.

New to the hobby, and been watching and reading a lot about quarantining fish. I don't have the skills, or the patience to do any of this... i am out... before i even start. kidding yall... just kidding.

So, back to the real deal. There are websites like Dr. Reef and Marine Collectors that sell fully Quarantined fish, which is GREAT. I honestly don’t mind paying extra for healthy fish and the peace of mind of not constantly worrying about introducing something like ich or velvet into the tank.

I’ve been doing as much research and reading as I can about wrasses, especially leopard wrasses and possum wrasses, and one thing that keeps coming up is internal parasites. I really want to make sure I get this part right.

From what I understand, internal parasites can sometimes take longer to deal with than something like a standard 14-day quarantine period. I’m guessing this is something I should probably call the quarantine vendor and ask specifically about: what medications they use, whether they treat for internal parasites, and how long the fish are actually observed.

I would really love to eventually have a leopard wrasse or a dwarf possum wrasse. Since wrasses, especially leopard wrasses, seem to have a reputation for coming in with internal parasites, would it still make sense to put them through my own quarantine afterward and treat with PraziPro/praziquantel or another internal parasite medication?

Or would that just be unnecessarily putting the fish through another round of stress and medication after paying an extra $200–$500 for professionals to quarantine and treat the fish properly in the first place?

Basically, if I’m buying from one of these quarantine vendors, should I trust their process and leave the fish alone once it arrives, assuming they’ve already treated for ich, velvet, flukes, and internal parasites? Or are wrasses one of those fish where you would still recommend additional observation or treatment at home?

For context, there isn’t even a tank yet. I’m planning either a 100-gallon or 150-gallon system. My old rock is currently going through a dark cycle, so I’m still very early in the process and have plenty of time to figure all of this out before buying any fish.
I have had several orders from DrsReef. I have several reviews in the Sponsor channel on them. Nothing but good things to say. It does take ~4 weeks to get a fish. I have several wrasses (orange back, solon, and bluethroat fairy) from them and they are healthy, active and growing.

They do a full QT, copper, deworm/defluke. I have had a couple times that the fish did not fair well in QT treatment and that they need to start the process over, but they always communicated that with me. They are great to work with when something goes wrong with your order after you receive it. If you need something special done, I am sure if you asked they might be able to accommodate. If you want to PM me, I will be more than happy to give you additional testimonial if needed. :)

I had that same problem with a flagfin angelfish (twice). smh

Personally I put ALL fish in qt/observation no matter where they come from. Too much invested to chance anything. Even if I know that someone treated with meds I still like to have them adjust after shipping and get used to the foods I feed so they don't have to compete as hard with the other fish. Or they come in at 1.017-1.020 SG and I run 1.026 so I slowly raise the SG on them.

You do. Its a must answer question. And not every fish is shipped double.
Only ones that are fragile and dont do well in shipping.
There are always 2 sides of the coin.

When fish ship poorly and customers receive a dead fish when they open the box, they send out nasty emails saying I wait a month for this fish and now I have to wait another few weeks before I get what I paid for and then on the flip side there are others that dont want any extra to make sure they get what they wanted.
So we have a question and we ship accordingly.
But there is not satisfying everyone and trust me no one can so we try to help the one that do want it.
