Buying used aquarium

Hey guys,

Thinking about buying a used bigger aquarium to go with our smaller 30 gallon. I saw a great deal for a used one. 90 gallons, with fish. How can I go about this? I won’t have a big enough tank that’s cycled for those fish. How can I move them without killing then all? They have fx4 filter with it. I’ll have to put new substrate and live rock in. Any suggestions?

When I setup a new tank, I get live sand and use some live rock from the existing tank. I also do as big of a water change on the old tank as I can afford and use that water in the new tank. I'll add whatever rock I need that's been soaking so there's no ammonia spikes from that. Then I mix new saltwater to top it off. I'll add Microbacter 7 and some live Nitrifying Bacteria and then give it a day or two, add more, and then add the fish and corals.

I recommend setting up a secondary temporary setup for the livestock. That way you can prioritize their health during the move, and also not have to rush setting up a tank that will likely be “permanent” until you take it down one day.

I’m in Fort Worth also. There are some locals who lend 100g Rubbermaid stock tanks now and then. You could ask on the local forum or just buy one as a temporary tank.
