I've been dosing two part for a couple of years now. It is now starting to cost too much money to dose two part. I am dosing 200ml alkalinity a day plus the calcium. Plus I am finding it to not be very stable. I'm running a full Apex system with dosers and Trident. So I am thinking of switching from two part to a calcium reactor. I have and used to use an Octopus calcium reactor that I still have. Plus I have a co2 bottle and regulator. The Octopus reactor is old and I am looking at buying a new Geo reactor. My question is what is the best way to control dosing of the reactor. Should I run it through the Apex doser or should I buy the reactor it's own doser? Can I have the Apex to monitor it and control it if something goes wrong? Is it worth buying a CarbonDoser or go with a Kamoer?

When my main tank was running I used a CarbonDoser on the CO2 bottle and a peristaltic pump to pull water from the sump, through the reactor and push back to the sump. Apex and Trident used to control the on and off of the CarbonDoser based on alk readings. Think I was doing 6 or so/day. The idea is to have the CarbonDoser set so that there is a very very slow rise in Alk when it's running. I had a couple of programs in the apex to control the CarbonDoser and minimize Alk swings between the reactor on and off and the lag time for changes in the tank.

Simplest way would be to tweak the CarbonDoser to run continuously and maintain the level you want and just monitor via the trident.
