Hi there,

im in the middle of ordering what I need for a DIY calcium reactor I’m going with a dual chamber plus co2 reactor/diffuser but realized I have no idea what sized pump I need that can tolerate the back pressure I was thinking a sicce nano or similar but was wondering what size pumps are on the calcium reactor’s that are sold.

Depends on how big. My new large Aquamaxx T-3 has a Sicce 2.0. My old Korallin was an Eheim 1260. Reactor media will bog things down as it compacts so aim for more flow.

I don't use the pump as a feed pump, very much in the Masterflex pump space there.

Hi there,

‘’was the sicce external? And can the pumps you had be hard plumbed?

Both were external running. Eheim was on very short PVC tubing stubs, the Sicce is hard plumbed using two unions. I haven't tried to find the unions Aquamaxx uses here for mating.

My old diy reactor was a Skimz 6" media reactor. It held 2.5 liters of media. Dont remember the lbs.
I ran a Tunze 3171 carx pump and also used a Kamoer for the effluent.

My Geo 818 runs a sicce 3.0.
It holds 24lbs media.
I will run a Kamoer fx for the effluent.
Have not run this yet though.

6" diameter? I’m using these for chambers

plus a third chamber that’s a co2 reactor. In all seriousness it will probably be more expensive than buying one but I can’t afford to lash out all at once on a $600-$1000 piece of equipment so while I’m saving for the tank and lights there are things I can be doing but by bit that has me still in the hobby and making what I can allows me to get quality equipment esp lights tank etc
