Calcium Reactor

I have been using brs 2 part for my mixed reef dosing approx 100ml of alk n calc a day. I was coming due to buy more and have been researching the possibility of a calcium reactor. My main question is about how much media would u guess I would use and how long would a 5 lb bottle last. It is currently a 90 gallon but looking to upgrade to 150-200 which reactor would you suggest?

The amount of media you will need depends on the size of reactor you purchase. You will have to replace media as it is used so just buy the biggest bag you can afford cuz you will need it sooner or later. MY 5lb bottle will last for 6+ months but depends on your system requirements. I keep the PH in the reactor between 6.3 to 6.5. I use a Deltec reactor but I have heard good things about the GEO as well. Do some research to see what will best fit your needs.

By the time people get to the point that they feel they usually could benefit from a reactor, their uptake typically makes a five pound bottle last about 6 months. Some reactors make better use of the c02 than others, but for the most part they are all the same. The regulator is a much more important piece of a calcium reactor setup.

I went with a reactor when 200mL a&b became impractical. Alk demand made the decision. Sizing the reactor I'd suggest going bigger to promote stability but this too is based on demand. Controlling the pH (apex etc and a good solenoid) in the reactor and having the ability to accurately control the effluent rate (paristaltic like mastedrflex) is key to making life easier. Ultimately I like the concept of melting aragonite with co2 better than dosing 2 part although both 'do the job'
