Hi everyone.

I'm looking to give the lighting on my tank a good shot in the arm. I'm currently running an AI Prime HD on a 24"x24"x24" tank and whilst it's been a good light over the past couple of years I'm now looking to grow SPS and I know this light won't cut it.

I've had my eye on the Kessil A360X and wondered if this would be sufficient to grow SPS? From what I've read it looks like it would be but I've also read that the max spread is 24x24 and I never light "maxing out" on anything when it comes to my tank - I prefer things to be more comfortable.

I plan on upgradng my setup to a much larger tank in 2-3 years so I like the idea of future proofing myself - i.e being able to take the light across & add more Kessils for a larger tank

Now, I've also see that the Kessil A500x has just been released (waiting for UK release date though) so wondered if it would make more sense to wait for that? Or would that simply be overkill?

Hello,
First of all, Kessils can indeed grow sps.
The main “problem“ is linked to the fact that if you would like to load the tank with acroporas.
It doesn’t matter A500x or A360X... you will need multiple lights to avoid shadow. The light is amazing but doesn’t to miracles, it is still a single point light.
360 or 500? Maybe just a matter of tank depth.

I like them a lot... but I need multiple Kessils.

Cheers!

Thanks for your advice. Ok well I think I might wait to see the UK price of the Kessil A500x before making a decision.

My tank right now has a couple of LPS and a Mystic Montipora so has barely got off the ground really.

Your tank looks fantastic - Radions and Kessils, the stuff of dreams!

Hello,
indeed, if you are not in hurry, wait and see for A500x.
The good side of these led lights is that I started with only one Kessil and 3 sps below it... and step by step I was integrating the other lights.

Cheers and good luck!

Hello, many thanks!
It is unusual tank size… but I like it a lot. Very easy to handle it:
220 cm x 45 cm x 35 cm (h)

Cheers!

I have 4 kessil A360x's and if I were to do it all over again I would have gone with a Radion G5 pro. You'll get much better coverage and spread as well as PAR with one of those over your tank size. In fact, so much so that you won't have to run it near full capacity to get what you need.

@maccyg - I agree with @PBar. I have 6 Kessil a360. I ran 6 of them on my 300g (72"Lx36"Wx27"D) and that wasn't quite enough. I've taken them off the DT and now have 2 over a 20 long (30"x12"x12"). I run the two at full power about 9" above the water. Its 100% LPS in the tank and they are thriving. I can give you PAR measurements when I get home. In my personal experience the kessil does best at 12"x12" coverage and does well up to 18"x18". I do not think its good for 24"x24" as they claim.

Go with 1 a360x, the rigid a-arm and this:

That's pretty cool. I have two rigid arms and they are awesome too. Extremely adjustable.

I have a A160WE Tuna Blue and an AI prime 16HD both at max intensity for 11 hours. Nothing is burning and honestly if I had another A160WE I'd probably throw it on as well.

Shoulda gone for the Radion from the get go. Things like the fact that the tank mount alone is $100 is ridiculous though.

This is my experience as well. Two a360 over a 20 long (12" deep) running at 100% and nothing burning.
