Hey, so I am working on designing a PVC Go Pro camera housing that will be used in the river by my house and eventually my own curious research in the ocean. Now, I have a few issues that maybe some of you creative geniuses can help me solve.
I also wish to use this for my own research in the ocean. I am an aspiring marine biologist/marine conservation biologist and have loads of ideas for uses of this thing if it works. I will be posting blueprints later!
- Sinking. Now, being PVC, this cage would have air inside it, causing it to float. What could I do to eliminate this buoyancy? I think adding weights would help but that won't be nearly enough. Would drilling holes in it work? So basically we would hold it in the water until it filled up with water and then let it sink? Or would that still not be enough? Is there another material that would be better to use?
- Even decent. I have yet to create blueprints for this, but one issue I see is that I would have to perfect it to sink pretty evenly. Now in your opinions, what would be best to ensure an even decent? A single rope connected on an arch in the center or two different ropes that could be moved to even it out? I know I will have to build prototypes and test them but I am trying to sort these issues out now.
- Even weight distribution. Now, this would be an important factor on how it sank, right? How do I evenly distribute the weight of everything on here? It would be the weight of a Go Pro, and the PVC, also two dive lights for night missions.
