Calling Kessil 360W users- color & intensity?

Mine are around 9-10" higher and I do have a Mangrove that sits on one of the chamber and starts to grow leaves =)

That definitely makes sense that it keep the fixture cleaner and I bet it does look better that way but I'd like to have the light in the tank haha. You hear so many different stories with the Kessil 360 regarding the color and intensity people use that its truly whatever works for you just stick to it.

Pardon my healthy skepticism, but it does sound like advertising. Id rather see specs on their website.

It does sound a little gimmicky but they say that no matter the color you choose it will be within the range that is useful to the corals. You can adjust it from 10K to actinic with the potentiometer.

that's not logic, but it sounds cool i guess. It also why I say dont sewat color choices(within reason) and set color to eye so the tank looks great, then set intensity with a meter. Par or lux.

No I don't run kessil. I just know light.

Set the color to eye. Base you PAR choice in tank depth(100 to 250 on the sand lets say) and know it'll be higher at the top, and figure out what you want for a photo period to decide on DLI. (daily light integer)
What that means is long and low with a higher peak(6-8hrs) or a shorter higher intensity.

Kessil Logic keeps a healthy coral spectrum no matter how you adjust the color to your liking.

I had the old a350w when it came out 2012. You adjusted each color and intensity but your color could be wrong for coral health.
It had a wider color range than the A360's and a lot of reefers didn't like the change that Kessil made because they wanted the wider color range.

The new Kessil's have the "logic" that controls the blues, whites and UV with only one knob, so it keeps the color balance right but the color range is very limited compared to the old 350's.

So I'd say half of the logic is within a limited color range and the other half would be digital control built into their led matrix chips.

I pulled out my a350w from the garage a few weeks ago just to see the difference and I can see why a lot of older Kessil users dogged Kessil out for tightening the color spectrum so much.

So if you like tinkering with a lot of color options like Radion's then the Kessil's should be off your short list.

I was never a fan purely based on not giving par specs. And I dont really like single point lighting.

Yes, Their just like Bose Audio, They never release specs.

But... they're engineer's helped me with this mod. after I blew that $900 back in January with that Red Sea led upgrade kit.

I use them because the 350 was my first led and I just have built up a comfort level with Kessil.

I like the single point source because the led's are already mixed coming from the lens and their single point is the closest that I've found to MH shimmer. I control the shimmer to my surface water agitation and I'm not going to stop running my T5's with them either.

My lights are only 4-5" above the water line so I needed something that mixes the led's right out of the gate.

I don't need/want to be able to adjust every diode. I found myself tinkering with the light constantly, now I just sit back and enjoy the tank and the incredible light the 360we puts out.

I ended up moving the light down to eight inches. On full blast I'm pushing 100K lux. I'm running it at 25K lux for now at peak and will ramp up to 30K or a little more over time. Does this sound Ok @saltyfilmfolks?

I agree, I don't feel the need to tinker or have effects. I just want great lights that do their job, like the MH/T5 days.
I keep up my husbandry, parameters and enjoy. :)

I can see why some of the reefers griped at Kessil after the 350 but it took myself a fairly long time to figure out what I liked and what my corals needed with the color spectrum back then.

I own a Bose home surround system and they have never released their watts etc but it sure sounds good. :D
But their's a lot of Bose haters out there too.

If you you want to tinker around (and there's nothing wrong with that), then scratch Kessil off your list.

Salty has his feelings and I respect his point of view.

If I need led help he is the first one on my list and (lol) he watched me flush $900 down the drain. I recovered $500 back and took the other $400 as a lesson learned and went back to Kessil.

Halides are like an old dog to me so Kessil is the natural choice. I can make it look like an Aqualine Buschke 10000 with a couple of VHO actinics or go full blue for a glow that's completely mental with a simple turn of a knob.
