No - I considered installing the block form of marine pure in the substrate, but was concerned about the accumaltion of detritus and difficulty in cleaning. Instead I created an acrylic column that holds the Marine Pure spheres in the overflow area - It's partially visible in this photo...So is that the pourous media on the bottom? Covered in acrylic?
Thanks Secretawesome build! very clean and well thought out !
Interestingly, Gnome glass introduced a line of blown-glass skimmers at reefstock that are somewhat similar to the one created for this build. I still prefer my design, especially considering the $90 price tag for their largest model which is still smaller than this design. I believe the larger diameter drain line will be much more efficient and I prefer the use of magnets instead of a zip-tie.

Thanks Skinz - The combination of the reverse painting and beveled, polished edges creates a really "neat" visual effect that is far more pronounced than the photos show.Very cool DIY with the Acans!
