Hello everyone !

Yet again the title says it all !

I want to remove tons of phyto from my tank, I got an RO sediment filter (5 micron) it would most definetely take the phyto out, but what about chemicals ?

Why not use a filter sock? 5 microns is smaller than a red blood cell but larger than most bacteria. It is not going to remove "chemicals" in solution. And obviously you are only going to catch phytoplankton larger than 5 microns.

To keep the sock from clogging quickly, put a larger micron sock in front of it.

No type of mechanical size-based filtration larger than an RO membrane can remove any dissolved chemicals. So there is no concern about disrupting the chemistry with a 5 micron filter, that is super large compared to individual molecules.

You can get a 1 micron sock that will polish your water beyond belief.

It will clog in few hours so be ready to replace.
