Can a goby be buried alive?

With my tank transformation in progress, I have to tear down my tank in order to fish out my engineer gobies; however I'm leaving my watchman/pistol pair in. My question is, with the rock I'm going to move, there is a possibility that their cave might collapse. I know they bury their entrance every night, but would they survive a complete demolition, or should I pull them out and let them build a new home after the procedure? Thanks

Personally, I'd want to remove them from the tank for two reasons. First, to make absolutely sure they are safe of course. Secondly, I feel like they might get in the way when you're building your new scape.

I accidentally covered up the cave of my watchman and pistol shrimp pair while cleaning the sandbed once, took an hour or so but the shrimp finally dug them out. I would still move them though, just to ensure their safety and so that they don't get in the way as mentioned above.

I didn't even think about that. I should fetch them out anyway, I just didn't want to have to dig to the bottom of my DSB

I think it will be best for both them and you, it will be easier for you to do stuff in the aquarium if you don't have to worry about a little goby and his shrimpy pal.
