Can anyone identify?

Hi!
So I’m sorry I can’t get a clearer picture at the moment, my Navarchus is still a little skittish, and I have to zoom in.

I just got my Navarchus Angel a week ago.
It’s in a small QT in Coppersafe.
The fish came with a small injury on the side and something under its bottom lip.

Wanted to know if there’s anything I should look out for?

It’s sticking out on the side and lip.
I’m not sure if it’s a cut from a fight, or some of that white fluff stuff. Or a parasite?

He definitely came into QT quite traumatized.. poor thing went through quite the journey.
I have him eating about a block of spirulina brine a day now, and he’s slowly getting less skittish and more used to me.
I just want to make sure there isn’t an emergency treatment I need to do.

I plan to do a set of Prazi treatments, starting on the 14th day of copper, next week Thursday.

(He isn’t eating high vitamin pellets etc just yet. I only started to introduce that today. But I’m happy with the frozen Spirulina brine for now.)

While this looks to be ich, it more represents mucus cones often from a skin irritation and at times are mixed in with ich and Often you will notice other occupants show no signs but recommended is to remove all fish and treat them as well using coppersafe or copper power for a full 30 days at 2.25ppm which they respond to well and add an air stone and monitor copper level with a reliable Copper Test kit such as Hanna Brand- No API brand. Also monitor Ammonia levels while in quarantine with a reliable test kit and add aeration during treatment using an air stone.

So this is a new fish in QT. It’s already been in therapeutic levels for 6 days, so if I’m seeing this at this point, am I likely seeing the aftermath/damage from it?

It doesn’t look like itch spots in person, but it definitely looks like there’s skin irritation there

what level are you running at and how are you testing those levels?

Coppersafe is between 2-2.5ppm. Been pretty stable around the 2.25 mark.
Using Hanna checker on that.
I got it with that small injury on the side.

It was a special order because I wanted a small one with adult coloration, so I took it with the small injury, but it’s been happy and eating well.

It’s more about if I need to do something specific treatment wise, or if I need to look out for anything

Should heal on its own but keep an eye on injury area for redness or getting sore which treatment would be Seachem Neoplex should this occur

If you can't get the fish switched to eating some pellets, you should try small mysids, or chopped up larger mysids for the time being, brine shrimp, even gut enriched, isn't very nutritious.

Also, you may be aware, but most of these fish from SE Asia were collected with cyanide. That can cause latent mortality, about 30 to 60% in the first 40 days by the studies that I've done (over a broad species range, not just this species).

Yeah it isn’t really touching the pellets just yet..
My assumption is I won’t have it eating pellets until it’s with other fish and they all eat it together, but good call on the mysis.
I just ran out of that a week or 2 ago, I’ll pick up more.

Not fun to hear about the Mortality rate on those fish caught with cyanide :/
It looks to be getting stronger, hungrier and less skittish day by day, so I’m hoping we’re going in the right direction!

I’m going to be attempting a bit of a shorter QT process on this one, which I can risk because my DT is a fowler with a cleanup crew. But I’ll see how it’s going day by day.
Now I’m 1 completed week into full strength copper.

As a side point, What amazes me is that the industry still goes for Cupramine over Coppersafe.
I think you told me about this several years ago..
Angels and especially flame angels dont do well in Cupramine.
I think my LFS said something like 2 or 3 out of 4 flames don’t make it.
I lost one during Cupramine treatment a few years back, that’s when you said to switch to Coppersafe for my next flame.
It’s currently about 2.5 years old in my tank :) And went through a couple months of it no issues.
