Can cheap carbon cause algae problems?

I worry about over bleaching when hunting for it too harshly, after having already started at least some controls.
its true we dont have solid readings or pics yet, they w help


since changing the carbon was the action that seemed to correlate w the algae, it seemed to have been limited alreadyish

I don't have my camera so I can't take pics right now and all my levels are perfect including phosphate. Or at least as far as an api test can read
 
Update! I took the carbon out and the algae slowly disappeared. I'm going to say the reason was because it was the first time I used carbon in my tank and just use phosguard like I normally do :)

I find using just phosguard/gfo is a lot of effective than just using carbon. Did you run the gfo after you removed the carbon?
