Hey all, Im not sure how but I believe my tank got velvet. I have been running hypo at 1.09. But raised it slowly to 1.11 as of today. Ive lost almost all my fish in 24 hours. Thought it was flukes when it first showed up but with all the rapid deaths Im thinking velvet. I have no clue how I got it though, nothing new in months and nothing new after the restart a month and a half ago now.

My eels are showing no signs. I have 3 other fish left, sailfin, dottyback, and blenny. (Maybe a marine betta but I cant find him). Impossible to get them out with the size and rocks. Can I treat the whole DT with coppersafe? Mostly asking if the eels would be okay.

I have heard Copper power/coppersafe. But Chloroquine Phosphate is safest with eels. Eels tend to survive velvet but should still be treated as they could still carry it. Check and see if a LFS has Rally Pro it can stop the deaths give you some time to get CP. Maybe put the eel in a seperate tank and use Copper for the rest if you have it on hand or pick some up and a LFS. Important thing now is to stop the deaths as quick as possible.

It being thanksgiving I cant get to a LFS until tomorrow at the earliest, I have copper safe on hand which was why I was wondering about it. I also have 4 eels and a 40b QT, they flipped last time I had them in there, constantly jumping out even with a lid and went on a hunger strike

Also is the Chloroquine Phosphate in coppersafe? My bottle is small and the label ripped where that would be listed

coppersafe and copper power are chelated copper. No CP in them. You can use coppersafe or copper power at reduced doseage. Not sure what would be safe treatment levels. I would use it to buy time until you can get CP.

They can be treated with coppersafe and at 2.25 level
Provide additional aeration with air stone . Other is general cure. Chloroquine can be risky if not used precisely

Yeah I am cure I read chelated copper was safe for eels. Coppwersafe on their website recomends 1/4 or 1/2 dose to start with eels.
I just saw that thank you very much

Okay thank you. Should I ramp up the coppersafe level to that at first or go with half the dose like the site said? Trust you more than their website lol

Never ramp up- it allows disease to take hold of a specimen
Get to level in 24 hours

Will do thank you. Do you by chance know how this got in my tank? I had ich, did a full restart (washed the rocks and everything) then cycled it with no salinity to kill of anything, then brought the salinity up to 1.09 and left it for a few weeks then introduced my fish from QT back. Nothing new added in like 2 months

This is interesting. I wonder if they have ionic receptors similar to sharks for hunting prey?
I doubt it. Eels aren't closely related at all. I think its just low level copper poisoning unfortunately
