Can filter socks be too long, touch the bottom of the sump?

I have a Waterbox 220.6 and their filter socks are quite pricey, I’m looking to stock up a bunch of these so I’m looking for a cheaper alternative if possible. Their socks are 7x10 I believe, pretty sure there is 12-14 inches of room to the bottom of the sump, but I can only seem to find 7x16 socks available. Would it be okay to get a sock a few inches too long? Would it reduce performance, or cause issues with the water flowing out from the sock? Or is this perfectly fine?

Not sure why you can't find 7x10 filter socks. I did a quick search and found plenty under $10 a sock.
But, to answer your question, a longer sock isn't going to hurt.

Some work, but you can resew felt sox to the length you want, cut off excess.
I did this with some 5 micron sox.

Yes. I actually prefer it to be longer as it helps keep the sock lifted (less strain on the holder), even when it’s folded at the bottom.
