No expert but I would say yes long as you rinse thoroughly with RO water. I’ve read people using bleach to fully clean but they thoroughly rinse and dry them out.

I rinse mine. No issues - I do not rinse them with RODI. I do let them dry.

Is it okay to clean the filter sock with tap water instead of RODI water?
Yes. I used to spray them off outside.
Now I just collect a few and throw them in the washing machine with some bleach and their done.

When I used filter socks, I usually tossed them in the washing machine with light soap and light bleach. Then a short soak in a dechlorinated solution.

Any precautions needed for hand washing? More particularly hand washing socks from tanks that contain Zoas?
no precautions.

Were you trimming zoas under water and a few many have gotten away...possibly in socks?

I also throw mine in the washing machine with bleach and air dry. Much easier than hand washing.

Ive been for at least 10 years and no issue. To verify, many of us wash the felt socks in a washing machine which is tap water.
I wash in warm water only- No soaps, bleach- Nothing and theyre White

I clean mine with a hose, rinse in RODI and let dry. Many people forego the RODI rinse and they do not seem to have issues.

Sure. The amount of tap water that adheres to the rinsed sock is too small to be of any concern.
