Mechanical difficulty most likely meant there wasn't enough stuff going to Maine. Things only get updated if/when they get scanned. BTW, a lot of "air freight" goes by truck.

Next day air doesn't get from California to Maine next day if you send it by truck. Which is why it took 5 days instead of one when they did, so I'm not sure what your point is.Mechanical difficulty most likely meant there wasn't enough stuff going to Maine. My point was that not everything that is advertised as going by air goes by air. I thought that was pretty clear. Coast to coast takes two days by truck. I've pulled hundreds of loads for FedEx, UPS, USPS, Amazon, you name it. I have an idea of how things work.Next day air doesn't get from California to Maine next day if you send it by truck. I hear you. My local UPS hub has very strange hours to, but I've gotten to know them and they are yeah we know it says we aren't open until 4PM but just walk in the side door and we'll go get your package no problem :) Gotta love smaller town operations. In Tallahasse, UPS "customer service" is closed most days from 11a to 5p, so when not if there is a mechanical failure, act of God, inclement weather, etc etc etc etc etc there is no one to contact. Its gotten so bad I'll only order coral online if its something I have to have and my lfs cant get. Just not worth the stress.
This thread is all over the place lol.I never said you didn't, but nothing in your post has anything to do with what this was actually about.
That certainly stinks. I have to say nothing like that has ever happened to me with UPS. In fact today I got a couple boxes of salt and they updated the estimated delivery time three times after it was scanned out for delivery(bad roads were slowing the driver understandibly). It arrived within the window and I got a text an email confirmation of delivery 5 minutes after he drove off. In the past I once had a package on a truck that broke down and while the tracking software didn't give me a new delivery time it did remove the original one and replace it with a message that there was a problem. I'm not saying they are better than fedex or more reliable, I've just had better experiences with them. Never once lost a livestock package while Fedex twice sent packages to the wrong state. I don't hate fedex as a company I just wish they would invest some in improving the tracking/updating as it's been this way for years.Anybody who hates Fedex needs to use USPS for a few weeks and then you will be back kissing FedEx's Feet :p
Honestly I have no idea how companies can use USPS and survive. Out of maybe 50 shipments we get from them a month at work, three are just lost! Another 30 have incorrect tracking info that never gets fixed. For example out of those 30 I would say that 20 are showing as arriving Monday but they end up coming on Wednesday. The tracking will still show as delivered on Monday.
Now heres the part that would send a Seller to the poor house. The ten remaining packages for the month will show as intransit at some location when in fact I already got the package. I have had a few cases were I did not even know the package had arrived at work and a week later I am arguing with the company as to what the heck happened to my package. They soon refund me and maybe a month later someone in the company says oh I saw a package for you in the warehouse when I was picking up some stuff. There on the ground i find the box signed for by one of the guys from two days after it was supposed to have arrived.

my mistake I misread your post as being about ups. Yeah usps tracking is very sketchy.UPS is great. I actually think it's the best of the four. I think USPS is such a distant fourth that I have to wonder why any company uses it. Cost I guess??

FedEx has a flight going to Maine every morning Tuesday through Saturday. That flight goes no matter how much freight is or isn't onboard. They also need the plane there to take freight out of Maine.
